The 2007 - 2008 playoff calendar is a Winter Meeting agenda item. Any football contracts signed prior to that time could be invalid. New member schools and requests for different conference affiliation will also be addressed at the meeting.



Reminder:

07-08 Football contracts should not be signed until after the November 28 - 29 winter meeting of the NCHSAA Board of Directors.

CHAPEL HILL-- The North Carolina High School Athletic Association will be recognized by the University of North Carolina this Saturday at Kenan Stadium.



The North Carolina-South Florida football game, which has a kickoff time of noon, has been designated as the 22nd annual NCHSAA Day. The university actually spearheaded the founding of the NCHSAA in 1913.

Over the past few weeks we have been very lenient regarding failure of many schools to submit 8-Quarter forms by the published deadlines. Starting Monday, September 25, any forms that are not received by the specified deadlines will be penalized with the $500.00 fine for “failure to submit appropriate paperwork,” as found on page 136 of the NCHSAA Handbook.



The deadlines are as follows:



**Pre-participation Form – Friday by 3:00 P.M.



**Follow-up Form – Monday by 4:00 P.M. (even if players do not play)

CHAPEL HILL-- The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced today the winners of its 11th annual NCHSAA Student Services Sportsmanship Awards.



East Bladen High School and Hendersonville High School share the honor among 1-A schools for the 2005-06 academic year, while West Bladen was the overall winner in 2-A and Triton earned the award for 3-A schools. All of these will be recognized in acknowledgement of the sportsmanship initiatives in place at their schools.

** The 8-quarter pre-participation form must be completed on and faxed to 919-962-7812 by 3:00 P.M. on the Friday of the varsity contest.



** The junior varsity player(s) MUST be examined by a MD/DO/Licensed Atletic Trainer FOLLOWING play in the junior varsity game on Thursday.



** An approval or denial form will be faxed to the school's athletic director acknowledging the reciept and approval or denial of the pre-participation form.

The USTA wants to recognize and thank all high school tennis coaches who implement a no-cut policy. These coaches play a critical role in our sport by allowing young players the opportunity to be part of a team representing their high school. (You can find more information under "Tennis")

CHAPEL HILL—Six more outstanding names in the annals of state prep athletics have been selected for induction into the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.



Al Black of Spring Lake, the late Pat Gainey of Taylorsville and later Pamlico; Charlie Gregory of Randleman, Tommy Hunt of Durham, Joan Riggs of Swansboro and Don Saine of Gastonia have been chosen as the 20th group of inductees to join the prestigious hall. That brings to 102 the number enshrined.

CHAPEL HILL—Over 6,700 individual awards have been earned by students for the spring semester from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association for achievements in the classroom as well as on the playing court or athletic field.



The NCHSAA made the awards in its Scholar-Athlete program, which includes recognition of varsity teams which attain certain grades as well as individual athletes.



A total of 3,706 student-athletes earned the individual Scholar-Athlete award, and 191 varsity teams in sports captured team honors.

Those schools whose head coach did not attend the NCHSAA rules session in

Greensboro can be found on each sport's page. The sports are football, men's

soccer, volleyball, and women's soccer. Failure to attend a mandatory state

rules' clinic will result in a $400.00 fine. Listings of clinic dates and

sites for all sports can be found on the officiating page. If you have any

questions or concerns regarding this matter, please feel free to contact the

Brevard and Greene Central High Schools will be hosting High School Tennis Coaching Clinics on Monday August 7th from 10am until 1pm. These clinics are being sponsored by the North Carolina High School Tennis Coaches Association. There is no charge for the clinics, but they do ask that coaches register for the clinic by Friday, August 4th. Please go to Men's or Women's Tennis under Select a Sport for more information.
