Corinth Holders Names New Head Football Coach

WENDELL– Corinth Holders High School has named Guy “Bubba” Williams as its new varsity head football coach, according to a press release from the school.

Williams will be only the second head football coach in school history. He will replace Barry Honeycutt, who is retiring from teaching in June. Honeycutt led Corinth Holders to a share of a 3-A Two Rivers Conference championship last season and the school’s first-ever playoff win.

Williams comes to Corinth Holders after six seasons as the head coach at Eastern Wayne. In each of the last two seasons,  Eastern Wayne had marched the whole way into the NCHSAA 3A Eastern Regional finals before being eliminated from the playoffs.

The new head coach is a 2003 undergraduate and 2005 master’s graduate of East Carolina University, where he lettered in football and was a team captain. Prior to becoming a head coach at Eastern Wayne, he was an assistant at New Bern High School for four seasons.

Williams played for his dad, Chip, a well-known head coach, at New Bern and also coached under him for two seasons.

Coach Williams and his wife, Meredith, have two children, a son, Guy, age 4, and a daughter, Campbell, age 2.
