Spring Creek Athlete Has Phenomenal Softball Season

Rachel McCollum, who recently completed her softball career at Spring Creek High School, had a phenomenal season for her team that has landed her in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Record Book.

McCollum finished her senior season with a batting average of .805 for the year, the best documented single-season batting average in the Record Book.  The previous mark was .779, set by Sarah Mooney of North Mecklenburg in 2011.

McCollum appeared at the plate 62 times and was credited with 33 hits in 41 official at bats.  She walked 20 times and was hit by a pitch once as her team got to the second round of the NCHSAA state 1-A playoffs.

The Spring Creek standout also hit 12 home runs on the season to make the performance listing in that category.

We appreciate coach Lester Boltinhouse providing the documentation for adding the accomplishments of Rachel McCollum to the Record Book.
