CLAYTON—Clayton High School has announced that its football stadium will be named in honor of two great coaches at the school, according to a press release from the school.
The stadium will be named Nixon-Fowler Stadium and will be formally dedicated on August 21. A dedication ceremony will be held at 6:45 prior to kick off for the first game of the season as Clayton takes on Cleveland. Gates will open at 5:30 with admission $7.00 per person.
According to a statement in the press release:
“Clayton High School has a rich tradition with athletics, especially football. We can attribute much of what we have been and still are to two great leaders. The late Glenn Nixon began leading the Comets in 1959 and continued until he retired at the end of the 1984 season. Gary Fowler took over a successful program and continued coaching until his retirement at the end of the 2012 season. During these 53 years, their success in leading so many Comets on the field and in the classroom has set the standard for future Comets and our athletic program.”
Nixon is a member of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.
