FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RALEIGH – The 2016 NCHSAA 1A/2A Swimming & Diving Championships kicked off at Pullen Aquatic Center in Raleigh with the diving portion of the competition. Nick Garberina from Pine Lake Prep was the event champion on the men’s side. He posted a new 1A/2A State Diving Championship record with a total of 456.25. The total eclipsed the previous record set back in 2013 by Lake Norman Charter’s Nathan Lane (380.15)
On the women’s side of the competition, Lindsey Ruderman from NC Science & Math posted a 405.45 total besting Emma Yeakley and Nicole Yeakley from Pine Lake Prep.
The swimming portion of the 1A/2A competition will begin tomorrow at Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary. Preliminary heats begin at 8:30 with finals scheduled for 4:45 pm.
