STUDENTS FROM NORTHERN GUILFORD & COX MILL EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Elissa Cunane from Northern Guilford High School and Wendell Moore, Jr.  from Cox Mill High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Spectrum Sports.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Cunane, a junior from Northern Guilford, helped lead the Nighthawks to their first Women’s Basketball State Championship as they took down Hickory Ridge 66-64. Cunane had a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds, finishing just one block shy of a triple-double in the final game of the season. She was named the 3A Championship’s Kay Yow Most Valuable Player for her efforts.

Moore, a sophomore on the Cox Mill basketball team was dynamic in the 3A State Championship game as he led the Chargers past Eastern Guilford 70-66. Moore scored 29 points and snatched 12 rebounds adding a trio of assists and blocks on the day. The sophomore was named the 3A Championship Game’s Charlie Adams Most Valuable Player. The Championship was the first Men’s Basketball title for Cox Mill.

Spectrum Sports typically announces the winners of the awards during its Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
