Assistant Commissioner - Sports & Championships
Tra is the Assistant Commissioner of Sports and Championships for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. In his 13th year at the NCHSAA, Tra has been associated with numerous positions throughout his tenure. He started working at the NCHSAA in August of 2005 as an Intern in the Development Department. In January of 2006, he was hired full-time as the Office Assistant/Receptionist. In April of 2006, he began working as the Officiating Administrator with the Supervisor of Officials. In July of 2009, he moved over to the Sport Department as the Assistant Director of Sports. In July of 2014, Tra took over responsibilities as the Director of Sports and Championships for Football, Lacrosse, Men's Basketball, Tennis, & Wrestling. Most recently, in August of 2016, he was named Assistant Commissioner - Sports and Championships.
Originally from Lincolnton, NC, Tra was Valedictorian of his 2001 graduating class at Lincolnton High School. Tra was a 3 sport athlete at Lincolnton, where he participated in Football, Wrestling, and Track & Field. Tra won the 2001 Richard Smith Scholar-Athlete of the Year award from Lincolnton High School and was the Lincoln Times News Scholar-Athlete of the Year as well.
Tra attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received the prestigious Johnston Scholarship, a full academic scholarship. He was a member of the UNC Varsity Rugby team his freshman year, before a severe shoulder injury ended his career. Tra graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with minor in Exercise and Sports Science.
In 2010, Tra earned his Master's Degree in Health Education and Promotion from East Carolina University.
Tra lives in Mebane with his beautiful wife, Victoria, and their amazing daughter Lily.
