2016 NCHSAA Cheerleading Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C – The NCHSAA held its 14th annual Cheerleading Invitational Championships at the Raleigh Convention Center. Over 100 teams competed in the event and Leesville Road High School took home the top prize, the Carolina Cup, presented to the highest scoring team across each of the 18 Varsity Divisons in the Competition.

The Pride won the Varsity Coed division with a score of 85.85, claiming the school’s first Carolina Cup.

Cheer Ltd., Inc., the NCHSAA’s corporate partner that assists with the invitational championship, has established the Carolina Cup to recognize annually the top high school varsity cheerleading team in the state.   It goes to the varsity-level team that earns the highest cumulative score in the whole competition, regardless of the division in which it competes.

New to the event this year, NCHSAA has awarded four scholarships of $500 to a senior, college-bound cheerleader. A winner is awarded for each classification of NCHSAA Competition. Winners are chosen by being well-rounded individuals demonstrating excellence in Cheerleading with outstanding presence of school spirit, community service involvement and academics with a minimum average GPA of 3.0 throughout the student’s high school career.

This year’s scholarship winners are:

1A – Marcasia Smith – Gates County H.S,

2A – Taylar Jones – Forest Hills H.S.

3A – Maddison Gibbons – Ledford H.S.

4A – Camryn Thoman – Millbrook H.S.
