LEXINGTON, NC – Isley Duggins twirled seven innings of no-hit, shutout ball to lead Southern Alamance past Alexander Central 3-0 and into a decisive final game in the best-of-three 3A Softball State Championship Series. Game 3 in the 3A State Championship Series is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at North Davidson High School in Lexington.
Duggins was magnificent, striking out five while only walking a single batter on the way to the win. She was backed up by some offense thanks to a 2 for 4 game by Brianna Gallagher and a 2 for 3 effort by Kayla Wilson. Gallagher stroked a two-out single to right in the top of the first, taking second on a passed ball before Heather Vaughn singled to bring her home and give the Patriots the only run they needed in the game.
Southern added a pair of insurance runs for good measure thanks to another two-out rally in the top of the fifth. Vaughn drew a two-out walk then Greta Hessenthaler got things started with a two-out single. Gallagher reached on an error to extend the inning and scoring both base runners and giving the Patriots a 3-0 lead.
