CHAPEL HILL— Brianna Garbrandt from Southwest Edgecombe High School and Jackson Vick from Southern Nash High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Garbrandt made school history on Friday as she became the first female placekicker to play for the SouthWest Edgecombe Football team. The senior kicked three extra points in the Cougars’ win over North Pitt.
Vick, a Junior on the Southern Nash Football team, ran the ball 29 times for 329 yards and five touchdowns on Friday night. His performance led the way as the Firebirds defeated Fike 41-39.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m; through the online form that can be found here.
