CHAPEL HILL— Taylor Apple from Western Alamance High School and Luke Bullington from East Surry High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Apple, a Sophomore on the Western Alamance Softball team, threw a complete game, striking out 15 in an extra-inning win over McMichael. Apple also got it done at the plate, hitting two solo home runs, including what would be the game-winner in the top of the eighth inning. The Warriors won 3-2.
Bullington, a Senior on the East Surry Football team, ran the ball 14 times for 176 yards and a school record-tying six touchdowns on Friday night. Bullington was also active on defense, recording 10 tackles and a sack as the Cardinals defeated Winston-Salem Prep 54-8.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m; through the online form that can be found here.
