CHAPEL HILL— Taylor Walton from West Rowan High School and Hezekia Newby from Eastern Guilford High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Walton, a Senior on the West Rowan Softball team, struck out 22 batters and allowed only 1 earned run in 18 innings pitched last week. Walton contributed at the plate batting .556 with 2 RBI’s as the Falcons went 3-0 on the week.
Newby, a Senior on the Eastern Guilford Football team, rushed for 384 yards and 4 touchdowns on Thursday night. The senior running back carried the ball 24 times, all during the first half of action.
