CHAPEL HILL— Hannah Rae Shaffer from Cardinal Gibbons High School and Marqies McCombs from Chase High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Shaffer, a Freshman on the Cardinal Gibbons Cross Country team, won the 4A East Regional Cross Country Championship on Saturday. Her time of 17:22.14 is currently the fastest time in North Carolina this season.
McCombs, a Junior on the Chase High School Football team carried the ball 44 times for 334 yards and 6 touchdowns. His 6 touchdowns led Chase to a 41-29 win over R-S Central and added to his season total, breaking the Rutherford County single season rushing touchdown record.
