CHAPEL HILL— Aidan Payne from New Hanover High School and E.J. Gatling from Northeastern High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Payne, a Senior on the New Hanover Soccer team, scored 2 goals and assisted on a third in Saturday’s 4A State Championship match. His efforts propelled New Hanover to a 3-0 win over Hough.
Gatling, a Senior on the Northeastern Football team, did it all in the Eagles’ third round playoff win. Gatling caried the ball 17 times for 152 yards and 3 touchdowns, caught 4 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown, and recorded 4 tackles and an interception in their 57-47 win over Washington.
