Each week, two athletes in an NCHSAA competition are selected as the recipients of the Performance of the Week award, sponsored by Ortho Carolina. Whether you walk, run, or ride, Ortho Carolina will keep you healthy why you do it.
This week the NCHSAA recognizes co performances of the week for the men’s. First up, Trevin Moyer for Mountain Island Charter had himself a day at Indoor Track & Field. Moyer set the new 1A/2A state meet records in the 55-meter with (6.25 seconds) and the 500-meter with a time of (1:05.31). He was later named the meet’s Most Outstanding Performer of 1A/2A state championship. Moyer's performances help lead the Mountain Island Charter Men's team 1A/2A State Championship. Next, we have Baylor Nelson from Community School of Davidson. Nelson Won 2 events at the 1A/2A state tournament in Cary. He is the 4th fastest all time in HS in 200 IM, set a Pool Record in 200 IM, recorded a New All-State record in 200 IM, and capped all of that off with a new meet record in 100 Fly. Nelson led the Community school of Davidson to its first ever state title as a team captain.
We also recognize Alaya Gillespie from West Iredell High School, a junior on the Women’s Indoor Track & Field team. Alaya competed in the State Championship this past weekend at JDL as well. Alaya won the 3A Indoor Long Jump and the 300m dash while getting 2nd place in the 55m dash. She had a great overall season and continues to preserve through different adversities.
