Elkin defends 1A Men’s Dual Team Tennis Crown
BURLINGTON – The Elkin Buckin’ Elks won their 10th North Carolina High School Athletic Association Men’s Dual Team Tennis Championship on Monday at Burlington Tennis Center with a 5-0 win against Triangle Math and Science Academy.
The Elks defended their 2023 championship and completed the 2024 campaign with a 19-1 overall record.
On Monday, Elkin’s Connor and Aidan Ballard, the recently crowned 1A Doubles Champions, won their singles matches against Cooper Fielding and Eric Wu. Connor Ballard won 6-0, 6-0, and Aidan Ballard won 6-1, 6-0.
Luke McComb beat Alexander Rhodes 6-1, 6-1; Jeremy Zamudio beat Soham Kela 6-2, 6-2, and Webb Snyder beat Rayyan Neikar 6-4, 6-3. The No. 1 match did not conclude as the Elks had already clinched the championship, but Elkin’s Owen Jennings was named the Most Valuable Player.
The Elks are now 10-0 in NCHSAA Championship Matches, and the Tigers are 0-1 as they made their debut on Monday.

Franklin Academy disrupts Pine Lake Prep’s title defense
BURLINGTON – The Franklin Academy Patriots beat defending champion Pine Lake Prep 5-1 on Monday afternoon in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2A Men’s Dual Team Tennis State Championship Match at Burlington Tennis Center.
Franklin Academy No. 1 Alphonso Sison, the two-time defending 2A singles champion, beat Jackson Grathwohl 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 and was named Most Valuable Player for the championship. Derek Shute, playing at No. 2, topped Dylan Patel 6-0, 6-2.
The Pride’s lone point came from No. 3 singles Heath Fry as he beat Nick DeLisio 3-6, 6-4, 13-11.
Tanner Collins, Akil Vinodh, and Hudson Collins all added straight-set wins for the Patriots.
The Patriots finished the season 20-1 and are now 1-0 in the state championship match. The Pride ended 2024 14-2 and are now 1-6 all-time in the championship match.

South Point wins first Dual Team Title
BURLINGTON – In the 3A Championship Match, South Point beat Fike 5-3 on Monday at Burlington Tennis Center to earn its first North Carolina High School Athletic Association Men’s Dual Team Tennis Title.
Both South Point and Fike made their first appearance in the Men’s Tennis Dual Team Championship Match on Monday.
The Red Raiders won four of the six singles matches, and the state championship-clinching point was won by the doubles duo of Shive Patel and Brandon Cunningham. Patel won his singles match in the No. 1 spot, beating Fike’s Snyder Pearson 4-6, 6-4, 10-3. He was named Most Valuable Player for his efforts on the day.
Red Raiders James Dover, Brandon Cunningham, and Tyler Cunningham all also won their singles matches. For the Demons, Dylan Skinner won the No. 3 singles match in a tiebreaker 2-6, 6-3, 10-3, and Collins Pearson won the No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-0.
South Point finished the season 16-0, and Fike ended the year 19-2.

Providence avenges 2023 championship match defeat
BURLINGTON – The Providence Panthers knocked off Green Hope 5-4 in the 2024 North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s 4A Men’s Dual Team Tennis Championship Match on Monday at Burlington Tennis Center.
Green Hope topped Providence in the Championship Match last year by a score of 5-1, but this year, the match came down to the final point.
The two teams were tied after the singles matches at 3-3 thanks to Jack DiMenna, Daniel Rohlman and Collin Cushman from Providence and Brij Bhatt, Vivek Indlamuri and Madeshan Muruganandam from Green Hope.
In the doubles matches, Rohlman and Grant Partridge won their match with the 2024 4A Doubles Champions Stephen Gervase and Indlamuri 8-6. Rohlman was named Most Valuable Player for the match. DiMenna, the current 4A singles champ, teamed up with Toby Stamps to win their doubles match 8-1.
Providence finished the season 18-0 and is now 2-2 in NCHSAA Championship Matches. Green Hope ended 2024 20-2 and is also now 2-2 in the final match of the year.
