2024 Women’s Dual Team Tennis Championships

Burlington, NC – On Saturday, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s 2024 Women’s Dual Team Tennis State Champions were crowned at the Burlington Tennis Center.

Bishop McGuinness wins first title since 2015

Bishop McGuinness swept Roxboro Community 5-0 to win its third Women’s Dual Team championship and first since 2015.
 
The 2024 1A Singles Champion Lucia Neves was the first on the board on Saturday as she won her match 6-0, 6-0. She was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship. Sarah Pulliam won her match 6-0, 6-1 and Lily Winters won the match 6-2, 6-0.
 
The Villains finished the year 19-1 while Roxboro finished the season 13-1.

The Association has partnered with the North Carolina Farm Bureau to award a pair of Sportsmanship Awards at each championship event, recognizing players who have demonstrated the ideals of outstanding character and sportsmanship throughout the 2024 season. The winners of the 1A Women’s Tennis NC Farm Bureau Sportsmanship Awards were Elizabeth Ess from Roxboro Community and Lily Winters from Bishop McGuinness.

Pine Lake Prep wins third Women’s Dual Team Title

Pine Lake Prep gave Research Triangle it’s first loss of the season with a 5-3 victory and the Pride claimed the third Women’s Dual Team title in school history.
 
Pine Lake Prep also won the 1A Championship in 2019 and in the 2020-21 Covid season. 
 
On Saturday morning, the 2A Singles Champion, Pine Lake Prep’s Mallory Aull, won her singles match with Victoria Zhou 6-4, 6-4 and Aull teamed up with Madison Utz to beat the 2A Doubles Champions Zhou and Alexis Zhao, 8-3. Utz also won her singles match with Eliza Basch 7-5, 6-4 and was named Most Valuable Player for her efforts. 
 
Pine Lake Prep also earned singles wins from Isabel Sieni and Molly Morgan Johnson. Zhao and Devan Patel won their singles matches to earn points for Research Triangle. 
 
Research Triangle’s Basch and Katherine Southern beat Sophie Stanford and Sieni 8-5 in their doubles match.  Pine Lake Prep’s Johnson and Taylor Shelton were leading their doubles match 7-3 when Aull and Utz won their match to seal the championship. 
 
Pine Lake Prep finished the year 15-1 while Research Triangle ended the season 16-1.

Terry Sanford completes sweep of Women’s Tennis Championships

Terry Sanford completed the treble as they won the Dual Team title after sweeping the singles and doubles championships at the individual tournament two weeks ago. 
 
On Saturday, Terry Sanford held off Lake Norman Charter 5-4 in a rematch of the 2023 state championship match, which the Knights won. Loren Galaviz and Jenny Wang, the reigning 3A doubles champions, scored the clinching point as they beat Anslee Falls and Eleina Moon 8-4. 
 
Pauline Bui, the singles champion, won her singles match 6-0, 6-0, and then partnered with Lauren Ruppe to win in doubles 8-1. Bui was named Most Valuable Player. Galaviz and Wang also won their singles matches. 
 
For Lake Norman Charter, Moriah Harris, Kate Champion and Aileen Huynh all picked up singles wins and Huynh and Champion earned a doubles point as well.

Providence wins first Women’s Dual Team Title

Providence beat Cardinal Gibbons 5-3 to win the first Women’s Dual Team title in school history. Saturday marked the Panther’s first appearance in the championship match since a 5-0 loss to Broughton in 2001.
 
Natasha Wallace, playing in the No. 2 singles spot, won her match 6-3, 6-0, and then teamed with Sasha Wallace in doubles to beat Celeste Davis and Anya Aga 8-3 for the championship-sealing point. Natasha Wallace was named the Most Valuable Player. 
 
The Panthers also saw singles wins from Vivian Wu, Carolina Artemenko, and Katelyn Soden. For the Crusaders, Davis and Kylie Ryan earned singles points, and Ava Staub and Kaya Jantac teamed up for a doubles win. 
 
Providence’s Wu and Ira Chitte were leading their doubles match when Wallace and Wallace sealed the win.
 
Providence ended the season 20-1, while Gibbons suffered its first defeat and finished 2024 25-1.
