The NCHSAA concluded the 2025 Basketball Season on March 10-15, bringing back the highly popular championship week format. Eight schools were crowned state champions. See below for the results by classification and gender.
Men’s 1A Championship
Corvian Community 58, Southern Wake 55 (OT) — Box Score | Post Game Press Conference
WINSTON-SALEM – The Corvian Community Cardinals edged the Southern Wake Academy Lions on an overtime-buzzer beater to win the 2025 NCHSAA Men’s 1A Championship at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Friday afternoon.
It is the first championship in program history for the Cardinals as they fell in the state championship last season.
Southern Wake Academy led by two going into the fourth quarter and still led after the final media timeout with 2:25 to play. A.J. Jackson Jr. tied the score for Corvian with 1:30 to play in the game, and R.J. Moore Jr. gave them the lead on the next possession.
Southern Wake’s Kobe Plata scored and made two free throws in the final minute to re-tie the score and force overtime. In the extra frame, after trading buckets, the Cardinals held for the final shot, and Moore hit a well-contested 3-pointer from the top of the key as the buzzer sounded.
Moore, who finished with 26 points and nine rebounds was named the Charlie Adams Player of the Game. Malachi McCutcheon, who added 15 points and sex rebounds was named the West MVP.
For Southern Wake, Plata finished with 19 points, four rebounds and four assists and was named the MVP for the Eastern Champions.
Corvian finished the season 25-7, while Southern Wake went 29-5.

1A West Regional Championship
Corvian Community 75, Queen’s Grant 44 – Game Book
The Corvian Community Cardinals rolled into the Championship Round with a commanding win over Queen’s Grant on Tuesday at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. RJ Moore Jr. went 8-for-11 from behind the 3-point line to rack up 29 points. He also pulled in nine rebounds. Malachi McCutcheon added 19 points and 10 rebounds.
For Queen’s Grant, Geronimo Clark had a team-high 11 points and Chase Smith added seven points and 11 rebounds.
1A East Regional Championship
Southern Wake 70, Washington County 56 – Game Book
Southern Wake saw five players score in double figures as the Lions punched their ticket into the State Championship game on Tuesday afternoon at the LJVM Coliseum.
Seung Summons led the way with 17, and Kobe Plata and Ira Wilson added 13 and 12, respectively. Bryan Epperson added 11, and Broderick Barnes chipped in 10. For Washington County, Brandon Carter Jr. had 27 points and eight rebounds, and Christian Phelps added seven points and 13 boards.
Women’s 1A Championship
Cherokee 84, East Bladen 48 – Game Book | Post Game Press Conference
WINSTON-SALEM – For the second year in a row, the Cherokee Lady Braves are the NCHSAA 1A Women’s Basketball Champions as they toppled East Bladen 84-48 on Friday at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Cherokee stretched a four-point halftime lead into a 14-point at the end of the third quarter. East Bladen trimmed the lead to 37-35 at the 6:07 mark in the third quarter. The Lady Braves outscored the Eagles 31-8 until they emptied the bench with 3:33 to play in the fourth.
The Lady Braves were powered by Whitney Rogers, who was limited to just a few minutes in the Regional Championship by a leg injury. She returned on Friday to lead all scorers with 33 points, seven rebounds and five steals. She was named the Kay Yow Most Valuable Player for her efforts.
Cecily “dvdaya” Swimmer added 15 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and five steals. She was named the Western MVP in the game. The Lady Braves saw several other impressive performances as Madison Rogers scored 10 points and had five rebounds and three steals, Joscelyn Stamper scored eight points and had 11 rebounds and Daisee Fourkiller-Raby had six points, six rebounds, seven steals and seven assists.
The Lady Braves racked up 97 field goal attempts in the game, largely with the help of 32 offensive rebounds. They also forced 36 turnovers and grabbed 26 steals.
For the Eagles, Laila Smith scored 22 points and pulled down six rebounds on the way to earning the Eastern MVP award. NeNe Ward added 12 points and eight rebounds.
Cherokee has now won three NCHSAA Women’s basketball championships, having won their first in 1996.

1A East Regional Championship
East Bladen 77, Perquimans 63 — Full Game Book
The East Bladen Eagles were led by 27 points and 11 rebounds from Laila Smith and 30 points from NeNe Ward on their way to an Eastern Regional Championship on Tuesday at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Eagles built an early double-digit lead but Perquimans rallied in the third quarter to erase that deficit and take the lead. East Bladen kicked back into gear over the final quarter and pulled away. Perquimans was led by 21 points from Kaydee Hunter and 12 points from both Lailana Marie Harris and Crishya Sellers.
1A West Regional Championship
Cherokee 65, Bishop McGuinness 61 — Full Game Book
With the help of a go-ahead 3-pointer from Daisee Fourkiller-Raby with just 14 seconds left, the Cherokee Lady Braves won their second consecutive 1A West Regional Title. Fourkiller-Raby finished the game with 18 points. Cherokee was led by Joscelyn Stamper’s 29-point, 22-rebound performance.
Cherokee had to fight back from a 12-point second-half deficit to earn the victory. Bishop McGuinness was powered by Adelaide Jernigan’s 25 points and seven rebounds. Jenna Moore and Claire Sullivan added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Men’s 2A Championship
Reidsville 71, Northwood 54 — Full Game Book | Post Game Press Conference
WINSTON-SALEM — The Reidsville Rams won their 60th consecutive game and their second consecutive NCHSAA 2A State Championship on Saturday night in the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Eastern Champions held with the defending champs through the first two quarters, but the Rams pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Chargers 21-10 in the third quarter.
Point guard Dionte Neal led the Rams with 24 points, five rebounds and four assists. He helped salt the game away as he made 7-of-9 at the free-throw line. He was named the West Most Outstanding Player for his efforts. Johnniyus Sharpe added 18 points and had two rebounds and two assists for the Rams as he was given the Charlie Adams Most Valuable Player Award.
Kendre Harrison added 16 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks.
For Northwood, Cam Fowler finished the game with 27 points and eight rebounds. He was given the East Most Outstanding Player Award. Beau Harvey added 13 points and six board.

Northwood 57, West Bladen 38
The Northwood Chargers advanced to the 2A State Championship Game as they pulled away from West Bladen on Thursday at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Cam Fowler led the Chargers as he poured in 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Isaiah Blair added 14 points and five rebounds, and Chad Graves chipped in eight points and seven rebounds. For West Bladen, Chase Williams had 16 points and eight boards, and Hezekiah Adams added 10 points.
2A West Regional Championship — Box Score
Reidsville 79, Bandys 50
The Reidsville Rams will attempt to defend their 2024 State Championship after they advanced past Bandys on Thursday night at LJVM.
Reidsville was powered by Kendre Harrison as he scored 26 points and had 19 rebounds, 12 offensive, and three blocks. Johnniyus Sharpe also poured in 26 points for the Rams. Dionte Neal added 12 points and eight assists. For Bandys, Landon Vaughan finished with 19 points and five rebounds. Ten other Trojans found the scoreboard in the game, including Easton Ledford, who scored six.
Women’s 2A Championship
Southeast Alamance 43, North Wilkes 33 — Full Game Book | Post Game Press Conference
WINSTON-SALEM — The Southeast Alamance Stallions kept the North Wilkes Vikings at bay on Saturday afternoon to win their first NCHSAA Basketball Championship at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Stallions held a one-point lead at the break but came out of the locker room stronger in the second half and stretched the lead out to six by the start of the fourth. Neither team connected on as many shots as they would have liked, but the Stallions were very solid at the free-throw line, making 13-of-16 to help put the game away.
Clara LaChapelle led the Stallions with 14 points and 10 rebounds and was named the East Most Outstanding Player. Shaniya Paylor added 12 points and handed out seven assists while pulling in four rebounds. Paylor was given the Kay Yow Most Valuable Player Award for the game.
For the Vikings, Ralee Bare led all scorers with 16 points and five rebounds and she was named the West Most Outstanding player. Her sister, Shalyn Bare added 4 points and recorded a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Stallions are now 1-0 in Championship Games, while the Vikings are now 0-2, having lost previously in 2018.

Southeast Alamance 48, Seaforth 45
The Southeast Alamance Stallions slid past Seaforth in their fourth meeting of the year to earn their spot in the 2A State Championship Game.
Southeast Alamance was led by 16 points from Clara LaChapelle. Inysia McIver added 11 points, including two threes and four rebounds, and Shaniya Paylor had 10 points and seven rebounds. Seaforth was led by 14 points from Katherine Leonard. Gabrielle White had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Mia Moore added 11 points with three 3-pointers.
2A West Regional Championship — Full Game Book
North Wilkes 60, East Burke 36
The North Wilkes Vikings advanced to the State Championship game with a comfortable win against the East Burke Cavaliers on Thursday at LJVM.
The Vikings were led by 21 points from Meredith Tomko as she made four 3-pointers and went 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. Ralee Bare added 13 points and Shalyn Bare had nine and 17 rebounds. Kaykay Kinder chipped in 10 points. For the Cavaliers, Kara Brinkley had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Braelyn Stilwell added 10 points and five rebounds.
Men’s 3A Championship
Ben L. Smith 64, Southern Durham 62 (OT) — Full Game Book | Post Game Press Conference
WINSTON-SALEM – The Ben L. Smith Golden Eagles outlasted Southern School of Energy and Sustainability in overtime on Friday night at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum to win the first NCHSAA Basketball Championship in school history.
In the final 30 seconds of the fourth quarter, Smith’s Tayshawn Mann hit a driving layup to tie the score, and on the following play, Southern’s A.J. Morman Jr. to drive to the bucket at the buzzer, but his layup attempt missed, forcing the extra frame.
Smith junior Jyi Dawkins broke the ice in overtime, and Smith opened up a five-point lead. In the final minute, the Spartans whittled the lead down to just one with 12 seconds left after a Jackson Keith layup.
Dawkins was fouled and made both of his attempts, giving him 29 points in the game and setting up the decisive play. Morman’s final 3-point attempt rattled out, and the Golden Eagles iced the game at the other end at the free-throw line.
Keith made a 3-pointer at the buzzer, but the game had already been decided.
Dawkins was named the Charlie Adams Most Valuable Player of the Championship. Kenny Miller Jr., who added 13 points and five rebounds, was named the West MVP.
For Southern, Morman finished with 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals, and he was given the East MVP Award. Keith also scored 23 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Southern Durham 78, Swansboro 65
The Southern School of Sustainability and Energy was powered by Jackson Keith’s 30-point, 11-rebound double-double as they earned their way to Friday’s Championships Game. A.J. Morman, Jr. added 19 points and five rebounds and Dwight Vincent chipped in 14 points.
Swansboro was led by 22 from Jermaine Cunningham and 17 from Tayvion Tangiora. Malik Richmond added 12 points and five rebounds.
West Regional Championship – Full Book
Ben L. Smith 71, Hunter Huss 57
The Ben L. Smith Golden Eagles outlasted Hunter Huss on Monday night at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum behind a 24-point, 12-rebound double-double from Jyi Dawkins. Dawkins added two steals and two blocks. Kenny Miller Jr., added 21 points and seven board while Gavin Palmore chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds.
For Hunter Huss, Jaleel Smith poured in 19 points and had 15 rebounds while Antonio Worthy and Ziayir Phillips added 14 and 10 points respectively.
Women’s 3A Championship
Western Alamance 76, Stuart Cramer 58 — Full Game Book | Post Game Press Conference
WINSTON-SALEM – The Western Alamance Warrior pulled away from Stuart Cramer on Friday night at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum to win the first NCHSAA Women’s Basketball Championship in school history.
The Warriors used a 12-0 run to start the second half to earn a 76-58 win.
Western Alamance edged in front by one in the first quarter and stretched their lead to 10 by halftime. The lead ballooned to 20 in the third quarter, and the Warriors kept the Storm at arm’s length the rest of the way despite the best efforts of Stuart Cramer junior Oshauna Holland.
Holland poured in 49 of her team’s 58 points on 15-of-29 shooting from the floor. She made all 17 of her free-throw attempts, pulled down seven rebounds, and assisted on two other baskets. She was named the West Most Valuable Player of the Championship.
For the Warriors, Tina Bowers had a team-high 26 points with nine rebounds and three assists. Allie Sykes added 22 points and five assists and went 10-of-12 from the free-throw line. Bowers was named the East Most Valuable Player, and Sykes was given the Kay Yow MVP Award.
Emma Johnson added eight points for the Warriors, while Cayden White scored 6, and both Xiomara Moser and Ava Mitchell chipped in five.

Stuart Cramer 62, North Lincoln 38
The Stuart Cramer Storm punched the first ticket to the State Championship Games on Monday afternoon at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Storm was led by 22 points from Hadley Womack and 21 points and 14 rebounds from Shauna Holland. North Lincoln was led by 13 points and nine rebounds from Ashlyn Black.
East Regional Championship – Full Game Book
Western Alamance 64, Terry Sanford 48
The Western Alamance Warriors jumped out to an early lead and ran their way to the 2025 Eastern Regional Championship on Monday at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Allie Sykes led the Warriors with 32 points including going 13-15 at the free throw line. Tina Bowers added 21 points and 11 rebounds and was also solid at the line, going 7-for-7.
For Terry Sanford, Jaidah Blake had a team-high 21 points and nine rebounds and Ameya Brown added 13 points and four boards.
Men’s 4A Championship
North Mecklenburg 59, New Hanover 56 — Full Game Book | Post Game Press Conference
WINSTON-SALEM — The North Mecklenburg Vikings survived a clash with the New Hanover Wildcats on Saturday afternoon at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum to defend their 4A Men’s Basketball Championship.
North Mecklenburg now has four state championships (including a Co-Championship from the 2020 COVID season) and two in a row.
The Wildcats came out strong early, taking a 31-18 lead at the end of the first quarter. By the first basket of the fourth quarter, North Mecklenburg had tied things up and eventually built up a lead that grew to be as big as seven. New Hanover pulled back to within three and fired a 3-pointer in the final seconds that missed and sealed the win for North Mecklenburg.
Rodmik Allen led the charge for the Eastern Champions as he finished the game with 14 points, five assists, five rebounds, and four steals. He was named the East Most Outstanding Player for his performance. Kellum Brown added 13 points for the Wildcats, and C.J. Kournegay chipped in with 10.
For the Vikings, Chadlyn Traylor poured in 22 points and had four rebounds and four assists on his way to winning the West Most Outstanding Player. Carson Evans finished the game with 24 points and three rebounds and was given the Charlie Adams Most Valuable Player Award for the Championship.

North Mecklenburg 64, Julius Chambers 56
The North Mecklenburg Vikings pulled away late on Wednesday at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum to earn their spot in the NCHSAA 4A State Championship game.
Carson Evans had a game-high 18 points and Ashton Pierce added 17 and eight rebounds. Chadlyn Traylor pitched in 15 points and five assists. Kyce Matthews also pulled in eight rebounds for the Vikings. For Chambers, Cameron Thompson had a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds. Tarris Bouie III and L.J. Jackson added 13 and 12 points respectively.

New Hanover 83, Sanderson 55
The New Hanover Wildcats jumped out to an early led and rolled to victory on Wednesday at LJVM to advance to the State Championship Game.
Kellum Brown led the Wildcats with 29 points and seven rebounds while Zeus Batts chipped in 12 points. Rodmik Allen scored 11 points and had seven assists and Jazir Wright-Mcghee also added 11 points. For Sanderson, both Mack Snavely and Nathan Fife each had 22 points. Fife added four assists and five rebounds.
Women’s 4A Championship
Lake Norman 43, Wakefield 41 – Full Game Book | Post Game Press Conferences
WINSTON-SALEM — The Lake Norman Wildcats slid past the Wakefield Wolverines to claim the first NCHSAA Women’s Basketball Championship in school history on Saturday afternoon at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Wakefield’s Lyla Bagwell drained a 3-pointer to tie the score at 41-41 late in the fourth quarter, but Lake Norman drew up a back-door play that allowed Alexis Shehan to find Rayana Minard for a last-second, game-winning lay-up.
Bagwell, who finished with 11 points and six rebounds, was named the East Most Outstanding Player for her performance in the game. Shehan, who scored 13 for the Wildcats and also had eight rebounds and three assists, was the West Most Outstanding Player.
Minard scored 10 points, including the decisive two, and had three steals and three rebounds, was given the Kay Yow Most Valuable Player Award.

Wakefield 31, Hoggard 23
Wakefield outlasted Hoggard on Wednesday night at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum to advance to the State Championship Game.
The Wolverines were led by nine points from Lyla Bagwell. Aly Schaffer and Jaya Hamilton each added six points, and Maddison McIntyre chipped in four points. For Hoggard, Tristan Shivers scored 14 points, AK Chance had six, and Ella Jones had three.
The 54-point cumulative total is the record for the fewest points scored in a Women’s East Regional game.
4A West Regional Championship – Full Game Book
Lake Norman 58, McDowell 52
The Lake Norman Wildcats edged McDowell on Wednesday night at the LJMV to punch their ticket to the State Championship game.
The Wildcats were led by 17 points and eight rebounds from Alexis Shehan. Rayana Minard also poured in 17 for Lake Norman and Kelsey Rhyne added a double-double as she scored 12 points and 10 rebounds.
For McDowell, Khloe Joyner had a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double, and Kimora Stewart pitched in 14 points.
