WELLS FARGO CONFERENCE CUP STANDINGS
LISTED FOR FALL SPORTS SEASON
Wells Fargo, along with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, today announced the final standings in the Wells Fargo Conference Cup competitions for the 2012 fall sports season.
The Wells Fargo Cup award, sponsored by Wells Fargo and the NCHSAA, recognizes the high schools that achieve the best overall interscholastic athletic performance within each of the state’s four competitive classifications.
The Wells Fargo Conference Cup is a companion to the Wells Fargo Cup and recognizes schools with the best overall interscholastic athletic performances within individual conferences. Wachovia and now Wells Fargo has sponsored the conference awards program since 1980.

In most conferences, points are awarded based on participation and standings in conference play. Each conference determines its own method of awarding points. Conferences are listed alphabetically by classification.
Class 1-A Conference Results:
Carolina 1-A: Rosewood sits atop the conference after the fall but is only one point ahead of second-place Goldsboro, which captured championships in football, women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s cross country. Princeton is third with a top finish in volleyball. Conference Standings: Rosewood 20, Goldsboro 19, Princeton 15.5, Spring Creek 14.5, Ayden-Grifton 13.5, North Duplin 10.5.
Coastal Plains 1-A: A share of the conference volleyball title with second-place Southwest Onslow, as well as a championship in women’s tennis and second-place finishes in football and men’s soccer, have Dixon in first after the fall season. Southwest also finished first in football, men’s soccer, and men’s and women’s cross country, and is not too far in front of third-place Lejeune, second in women’s cross country. Four Rivers 1-A: In a tussle for the top spot, Riverside beats out Manteo and leads the way after the fall season, finishing first in volleyball. Second-place Manteo finished first in men’s cross country and second in football and sits comfortably ahead of third-place Northside. Conference Standings: Riverside 53.5, Manteo 52.5, Northside 40, Camden 33, South Creek 29.5, Perquimans 26, Southside 25, Plymouth 19.
Smoky Mountain 1-A: First place belongs to Swain after the fall, thanks to top finishes in football and women’s cross country, and a runner-up performance in volleyball. Murphy is in second with a conference crown in soccer and a second-place finish in football. Hayesville, who is currently third, finished first in men’s cross country and second in women’s cross country. Tar Roanoke 1-A: With a dominant fall season, Gates County holds the top spot in the conference, sweeping the cross country championships and finishing second in football. KIPP Pride is in second with runner-up performances in men’s and women’s cross country with North Edgecombe closely behind in third. Conference Standings: Gates County 225, KIPP Pride 175, North Edgecombe 170, Northampton County 145, Southeast Halifax 125, Weldon 65.
Tideland 1-A: Columbia is the conference leader after the fall, thanks to league titles in volleyball and football. Creswell sits in second with Mattamuskeet in third, both not far behind the top team. Conference Standings: Columbia 10, Creswell 8, Mattamuskeet 6, Cape Hatteras 4, Ocracoke 1.
Tri-County 1-A: A championship in football has James Kenan in first after the fall, just narrowly ahead of second-place Wallace-Rose Hill, who finished first in men’s soccer and second in football. Conference volleyball champion Lakewood is in a deadlock for third with Midway. Yadkin Valley 1-A: Gray Stone Day is out to a commanding lead, thanks to a solid fall season with conference crowns in women’s tennis and men’s and women’s cross country, as well as a second-place performance in volleyball. East Montgomery and North Moore are tied for the second-place position in the conference, with East Montgomery finishing first in men’s soccer and North Moore finishing second in men’s soccer as well as men’s and women’s cross country. Class 1-A/2-A Conference Results:
Carolina 12 1-A/2-A: Carrboro is in sole possession of first after the fall season, finishing first in football and second in men’s soccer. Carrboro also shared the conference women’s tennis title with Cedar Ridge, which is in third after the fall season. Just ahead of Cedar Ridge in second sits the North Carolina School of Science and Math, who captured a championship in men’s soccer. Mountain Valley 1-A/2-A: Championships in men’s soccer and women’s cross country as well as a second-place finish in women’s golf earn Ashe its first-place position in the conference after the fall. Wilkes Central is second with a league title in football and a second-place performance in women’s tennis. Third place belongs to Forbush, the second-place finisher in women’s soccer and women’s cross country. Northwest 1-A/2-A: West Stokes is able to outperform the competition and take the number one spot in the conference, thanks to a fall championship in men’s soccer and a second-place finish in women’s cross country. Mount Airy is in second, finishing first in both football and women’s tennis, and North Surry is only a point behind in third with a top finish in volleyball and a runner-up finish in women’s golf. Rocky River 1-A/2-A: An outstanding fall sports season with conference crowns in women’s tennis and men’s and women’s cross country have Cuthbertson way ahead of the competition. The top school also earned a share of the men’s soccer title, tying with second-place overall Central Academy, which added second-place finishes in women’s tennis and men’s cross country to its fall campaign. Union Academy finds itself in third, but just a half point behind Central Academy. Southern Piedmont 1-A/2-A: Lake Norman Charter owns the top spot in the conference after the fall, thanks to championships in women’s golf, men’s soccer, volleyball, and women’s tennis. North Lincoln is second, sweeping the conference cross country championships and finishing second in volleyball. Third place belongs to East Lincoln, who finished first in football and second in women’s golf. Three Rivers 1-A/2-A: Top finishes in football, men’s soccer, and men’s cross country have Red Springs on top of the conference after the fall. Fairmont and East Columbus are locked in a struggle for second with both schools finishing well in women’s tennis. Western Highlands 1-A/2-A: Hendersonville leads the way after the fall season, thanks to first-place finishes in football, women’s golf, women’s tennis, women’s cross country, and a share of the conference volleyball title with second-place Polk County. Charles D. Owen is close behind in third with a championship in men’s soccer and a second-place finish in women’s cross country. Conference Standings: Hendersonville 81, Polk County 73.5, Charles D. Class 2-A Conference Results:
Catawba Valley 2-A: The race for the number one spot is extremely close, with Maiden coming out on top after the fall thanks to a championship in women’s tennis, a share of the football title with third-place South Iredell, and a second-place finish in women’s cross country. Bandys is second, with a top finish in men’s cross country, and South Iredell added two championships, one in volleyball the other in men’s soccer, to round out its fall campaign. Conference Standings: Maiden 33, Bandys 32, South Iredell 31, Newton-Conover 30, J.C. Draughn 28.5, East Burke 26, Bunker Hill 22.5, West Caldwell 13.
Central Carolina 2-A: In a battle for the top spot in the conference, Central Davidson edges out Salisbury with a sweep of the cross country championships and a first-place finish in volleyball. Salisbury finished first in both football and men’s soccer, and third-place West Davidson finished second in volleyball, men’s soccer, and men’s and women’s cross country. Conference Standings: Central Davidson 54, Salisbury 53, West Davidson 49.5, East Davidson 39, Thomasville 27, Lexington 26.5.
East Central 2-A: League titles in volleyball, women’s tennis, and men’s cross country propel Topsail to the top of the conference after the fall. Second place belongs to Swansboro, which finished first in women’s cross country and second in women’s tennis. Croatan is in third, capturing a championship in women’s golf and finishing second in women’s cross country behind Swansboro. Conference Standings: Topsail 76, Swansboro 69, Croatan 66, East Duplin 62, Richlands 60, Clinton 52, Northside 37, South Lenoir 33.
Eastern Plains 2-A: Beddingfield is the conference leader after the fall season, with top finishes in men’s and women’s cross country and volleyball. North Pitt is in second with a top performance in men’s soccer, just ahead of third-place Kinston. Mid-State 2-A: The top three teams remain close after the fall sports season, with Jordan-Matthews on top thanks to championships in women’s tennis and men’s soccer. Providence Grove is second with league titles in volleyball and women’s cross country, just narrowly edging out third-place Reidsville, which captured the conference football title. Northern Carolina 2-A: Thanks to a strong fall season including championships in men’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, and a share of the conference title in volleyball, Corinth Holders secures the top spot in the conference. Roanoke Rapids, the women’s tennis conference champion, is in a deadlock for second with Franklinton, the second-place school in football. Piedmont 2-A: With a sweep of the conference cross country championships and a tie for first with Wheatmore in volleyball, Randleman secures the top spot in the conference after the fall. Wheatmore also finished first in women’s tennis and sits in second overall. Trinity holds third thanks to a league title in men’s soccer. Class 2-A/3-A Conference Results:
Western North Carolina Athletic 2-A/3-A: West Henderson is out to a comfortable conference lead after the fall, thanks to top finishes in women’s golf and volleyball. Second-place East Henderson finished first in football while Brevard captured a championship in women’s tennis and is in third. Conference Standings: West Henderson 315, East Henderson 245, Brevard 235, Pisgah 230, Franklin 225, Smoky Mountain 205, North Henderson 200, Tuscola 175.
Northeastern Coastal 2-A/3-A: With the top two schools only separated by a single point, First Flight holds the first-place position in the conference, edging out Currituck. First Flight finished in a tie for first in men’s soccer with Currituck and also finished second in men’s cross country and women’s tennis. Currituck added championships in both men’s and women’s cross country to its share of the men’s soccer title. Edenton Holmes is third with top finishes in football and women’s tennis. Conference Standings: First Flight 33, Currituck 32, Edenton Holmes 29, Elizabeth City Northeastern 27, Pasquotank 16, Hertford County 15, Bertie 4.
South Mountain Athletic 2-A/3-A: Shelby is the frontrunner after the fall, with top finishes in men’s soccer and women’s cross country. Second-place Patton finished first in volleyball and men’s cross country and sits just two points ahead of third-place Freedom, the second-place finisher in football, men’s soccer, and women’s cross country. Conference Standings: Shelby 34, Patton 32.5, Freedom 30.5, Burns 22, R-S Central 21, East Rutherford 16.5, Chase 11.5.
Waccamaw 2-A/3-A: South Brunswick beats out West Brunswick for the top spot in the conference after the fall with league titles in volleyball, men’s soccer, and women’s cross country. West Brunswick sits comfortably in second, thanks to top finishes in men’s cross country and football. Whiteville is third, taking the top spot in women’s tennis. Conference Standings: South Brunswick 50, West Brunswick 48.3, Whiteville 39, North Brunswick 30, South Columbus 26.3, East Bladen 21.3, West Bladen 19.
Class 3-A Conference Results:
Big East 3-A: With a conference crown in football and a second-place finish in women’s golf, Hunt is just barely in the lead after the fall season. Hunt also shared the volleyball title with second-place overall Fike, which also captured championships in women’s golf and women’s cross country. Rocky Mount is in third, finishing second in women’s tennis as well as men’s and women’s cross country. Conference Standings: Hunt 64.5, Fike 64, Rocky Mount 62, Southern Nash 58, Nash Central 55.5, Northern Nash 55.
Big South 3-A: In a fierce fight for first, Ashbrook edges out Forestview for the top spot in the conference after the fall season with league titles in men’s soccer, women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s cross country. Right behind Forestview sits South Point, which captured championships in football and men’s golf. Ashbrook 71, Forestview 70, South Point 69.5, Crest 65, Kings Mountain 61, North Gaston 40, Hunter Huss 33.5.
Cape Fear Valley 3-A: The top two teams in the conference are in a deadlock for first after the fall. Overhills captured championships in football as well as men’s and women’s cross country, but was unable to separate itself from Union Pines, which captured first in both women’s tennis and women’s golf. Southern Lee is third with top finishes in volleyball and men’s soccer. Conference Standings: Overhills 37, Union Pines 37, Southern Lee 34.5, Western Harnett 30.5, Gray’s Creek 23, Douglas Byrd 16, Westover 13.
Carolina 3-A: Championships in women’s tennis, men’s soccer, football, and women’s cross country propel Cardinal Gibbons to the top spot in the conference. Gibbons also shared the conference volleyball title with Chapel Hill, who also finished first in men’s cross country and sits in second overall. In third is Orange, with a runner-up finish in football. Conference Standings: Cardinal Gibbons 34.5, Chapel Hill 30.5, Orange 22, Oxford Webb 13.5, Southern Vance 13.5, Northern Vance 10.
Coastal 3-A: The top three teams remain close after the fall sports season, with West Carteret out in front thanks to a sweep of the conference cross country championships and a runner-up finish in women’s tennis. Jacksonville finished first in both men’s soccer and women’s tennis and is second overall. Washington is third after runner-up performances in football and women’s golf. Eastern Carolina 3-A: Triton leads the way after the fall season, thanks to championships in women’s cross country, football, and volleyball. Cleveland secures second with a championship in men’s soccer and a second-place finish in volleyball, and sits just ahead of third-place Charles B. Aycock, the first-place finisher in women’s golf and second in women’s tennis. Conference Standings: Triton 39.5, Cleveland 32.5, Charles B. Mid Piedmont 3-A: First place belongs to Ledford after a solid fall season, with league titles in women’s tennis, men’s and women’s cross country, and a runner-up performance in men’s soccer. Southwestern Randolph edges out Asheboro for second in the conference, lifted by a championship in volleyball and a second-place finish in men’s cross country. Third-place Asheboro tied for second in women’s tennis with Southwestern Randolph and also finished second in women’s cross country. Mid State 3-A: Northern Guilford is out to a comfortable conference lead after the fall, built on championships in football, women’s golf, men’s soccer, women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s cross country. Walter Williams is in second with a top finish in volleyball and is just ahead of third-place Western Alamance, which finished second in men’s soccer. North Piedmont 3-A: A sound fall season has Jesse Carson out in front, with second-place finishes in volleyball, women’s tennis, and men’s cross country. East Rowan just beats out rival West Rowan for second, thanks to championships in men’s cross country and women’s tennis. West Rowan settles for third despite finishing first in women’s golf and women’s cross country. South Piedmont 3-A: A championship in women’s cross country and second-place finishes in men’s soccer and cross country procure the top spot in the conference for Jay M. Robinson. Second-place Cox Mill and third-place Concord are both close behind, with Cox Mill finishing first in women’s golf and second in volleyball, and Concord taking second in football and women’s golf. Mega 7 3-A/4-A: Charlotte Catholic is out to a comfortable first-place lead, thanks to a commanding fall performance with championships in every fall sport: football, men’s soccer, women’s golf, women’s tennis, volleyball, and men’s and women’s cross country. Olympic is in second with a runner-up performance in football. Third place belongs to East Gaston, which finished second in women’s golf. Conference Standings: Charlotte Catholic 49, Olympic 36.5, East Gaston 29.5, West Mecklenburg 21, Berry Academy 16, Harding 12, Garinger 8.
Mountain Athletic 3-A/4-A: With a dominant fall season including championships in men’s soccer, women’s tennis, women’s golf, and men’s and women’s cross country. T.C. Roberson is the frontrunner after the fall. Second place belongs to A.C. Reynolds, which finished in a tie for first in football with Roberson and second in men’s soccer and women’s cross country. Asheville is third, just ahead of Enka, thanks to second-place finishes in women’s tennis and men’s cross country. Conference Standings: T.C. Roberson 95, A.C. Northwestern Athletic 3-A/4-A: Watauga is the top team after the fall sports season, sweeping the conference cross country championships and also adding a league title in women’s tennis. Hickory is in second thanks to a championship in men’s soccer and a runner-up finish in women’s tennis. Third-place Alexander Central took first in women’s golf and tied for second in football. Southern Carolina 3-A/4-A: With a narrow lead over second-place Weddington, Marvin Ridge is in first by finishing strong in men’s soccer, women’s tennis, women’s golf, women’s cross country, and volleyball. Weddington had solid fall performances in football, men’s soccer, and men’s cross country to secure second. Porter Ridge, which also finished well in football, is in third. Class 4-A Conference Results
Cap 8 4-A: The top spot belongs to Broughton after the fall, thanks to league titles in women’s tennis and women’s cross country. Millbrook and Leesville Road are in a deadlock for second, with Millbrook finishing first in women’s cross country and Leesville taking first in both football and volleyball. Sanderson is close behind these two schools with a top finish in men’s soccer. Conference Standings: Broughton 39, Millbrook 36.5, Leesville Road 36.5, Sanderson 34.5, Wakefield 32, Heritage 26, Enloe 24.5, Wake Forest-Rolesville 23.
Central Piedmont 4-A: Mount Tabor and Reagan find themselves in a tie for first after the fall season with both schools performing well. Mount Tabor captured championships in men’s soccer and men’s and women’s cross country while Reagan finished first in both women’s golf and volleyball. R.J. Reynolds is tied with West Forsyth for third in the conference, helped by a top finish in women’s tennis. Conference Standings: Mount Tabor 307.5, Reagan 307.5, R.J. Greater Neuse River 4-A: With a fantastic fall consisting of championships in men’s soccer, volleyball, football, and women’s golf, Garner leads the conference. Clayton finished first in women’s tennis and is second overall while West Johnston finished first in men’s cross country and is in third overall. Conference Standings: Garner 83.5, Clayton 79, West Johnston 76.5, Southeast Raleigh 60.5, Knightdale 60, East Wake 56.5, Smithfield-Selma 54, Harnett Central 50.
I-Meck 4-A: Top finishes in men’s soccer and volleyball earn W.A. Hough first place in the conference after the fall season. Lake Norman, who sits in second, had top performances in women’s tennis and men’s and women’s cross country. Third place belongs to Mallard Creek who captured a conference championship in football. Conference Standings: W.A. Hough 51, Lake Norman 47, Mallard Creek 38.5, Hopewell 30, Mooresville 29, North Mecklenburg 28.5, West Charlotte 10, Vance 10.
All-Metro 4-A: Grimsley finishes ahead of the pack after the fall season with league titles in women’s tennis and women’s cross country, and a tie for first in volleyball with Southern Alamance. Page, in second after the fall, finished first in football and second in women’s tennis and women’s cross country. Southern Alamance added a top finish in men’s cross country to its fall campaign to secure its third-place position. Conference Standings: Grimsley 36.5, Page 33, Southern Alamance 26, Western Guilford 24.5, Southeast Guilford 24, Dudley 12.5, Ben L. Smith 7.5.
Mid-Eastern 4-A: Hoggard is able to get the better of Ashley this fall and claim the top spot in the conference, with a league title in women’s tennis. Ashley finished first in men’s soccer and men’s cross country and is not too far ahead of third-place New Hanover, who won a conference championship in women’s cross country. Conference Standings: Hoggard 29, Ashley 28.5, New Hanover 27, Laney 23.5, New Bern 21.5, Rose 17.5.
Mid-South 4-A: With a sweep of the conference cross country championships and second-place finishes in football and women’s tennis, Jack Britt is able to overcome Terry Sanford and take the first-place position after the fall. The top two teams tied for first in men’s soccer, and Terry Sanford added a top finish in women’s tennis to its fall sports season. Pine Forest is third thanks to a first-place performance in women’s volleyball and a runner-up finish in men’s cross country. Pac-6 4-A: East Chapel Hill finishes the fall in first, winning league titles in women’s tennis and men’s and women’s cross country. Jordan is second, finishing first in volleyball and second in women’s cross country and women’s tennis. Third place belongs to Durham Riverside who finished second in volleyball. Piedmont Triad 4-A: A dominant fall sports season, including championships in volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s tennis, women’s golf, and men’s and women’s cross country, has Northwest Guilford on top. Second place belongs to East Forsyth who finished first in football and second in men’s and women’s cross country. Southwest Guilford sits in third with runner-up performances in men’s soccer and women’s tennis. Ardrey Kell is in second, finishing first in volleyball, women’s tennis, and women’s golf. Third place belongs to Myers Park, which captured the league title in men’s soccer.
