Swain County Receiver Sets School Record

BRYSON CITY— Swain County High School senior receiver Matthew Maennle has set a school record, according to the Asheville Citizen Times.

Maennle recorded his 103rd career reception in a 61-8 victory over Cherokee on October 5 to eclipse the former mark of 102 held by Benjie Shuler, who went on to play collegiately at Tennessee.

Maennle has also established Swain records for receiving and for touchdowns receptions, Swain is the defending NCHSAA 1-AA champion.

According to the Asheville paper, Maennle has scored touchdowns in just about every way a player can— he has thrown a touchdown pass, run for a score, of course has caught passes for touchdowns, and has also returned an interception for six points, a kickoff for a touchdown as well as a punt return for a score. And, by the way, he recovered a fumble in the end zone for a score.
