Toney Baker- Ragsdale (2001-04)
Toney Baker had a national and state record-setting career at Ragsdale High School.
While grinding out yards for the Tigers, the four-time all-state selection set numerous single and career marks. In his junior year, he ran for 3,411 yards, which ranked second in the NCHSAA record book at the time and ranked third after the 2010 season.
Baker’s 3,411 total is still good enough for a top-twenty ranking national ranking. His senior year was nearly as productive as his 3,030 yards still ranks him in the top-fifteen in the state.
For a career, his 1,028 rushing attempts and 10,241 yards ranked him third and second in the NCHSAA record book, respectively. His 10,241 total yards placed him third nationally when he graduated and is still among the top marks.
Baker was one of the most sought after running backs in the country out of high school. For his record-setting career, Baker was named to Parade, Super Prep, and EA Sports All-America teams and played in a number of all-star games including the North Carolina-South Carolina Shrine Bowl and U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
He went onto a solid, although injury-plagued, career at NC State where he was still amassed 2,045 yards and 27 touchdowns on the ground and 676 yards and four touchdowns receiving in 36 games for the Wolfpack.
For his outstanding career, the Jamestown native earned his spot as one of the “Names in the Book.”
