SOUTHERN PINES—A kicker from Pinecrest High School has booted his way into the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Record Book, according to a report in the Southern Pines Pilot.
Last Friday night, with 22 seconds to go in the first half, Pinecrest’s Jackson Maples booted a 60-yard field goal, the second longest documented three-pointer in the NCHSAA Record Book. It wound up not being enough, as Reagan rallied to score a 28-20 victory over Pinecrest.
Maples also kicked a 44-yard field goal and intercepted two passes in the game.
The longest field goal documented for the Record Book occurred on September 2, 2000, when Cline Ingle of Burns booted a 61-yarder for the only points for his team in a 48-3 loss to Shelby.
