GREENSBORO— Athletes and coaches often work hard in the preseason, but at Grimsley High School in Greensboro that work extended beyond the practice field or court.
Lewis Newman of Grimsley reported a huge turnout over the weekend for the annual campus clean-up in preparation for the start of school.
There were 136 Grimsley student-athletes, 26 coaches and 39 parents involved with the effort. A total of 14 different sports and 19 different teams were involved with the cleanup.
Activities ranged from a general clean-up of the campus, including weed removal, mulching and trash removal, to painting and touching up the lower walls of Jamieson Stadium as well as many areas inside the school. The home side of the stadium was pressure washed and all aspects of the baseball, softball and tennis areas were cleaned.
Many other areas both inside the buildings and outside got special attention.
Newman noted, “I sincerely believe that one of the most important and special aspects of our school community is the dedication to being a WHIRLIE. We joined together to help get our campus ready for the opening day. We shared a great deal of fellowship and bonded as Whirlies for a common cause.”
