POTW Week 15 Winners

Each week an athlete in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association is selected for the Performance of the Week Award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. These athletes are nominated by coaches, media, and school administrators for their outstanding performance. 

The OrthroCarolina Performer of the Week for week fourteen of NCHSAA competition goes to Sage Tala of Parkwood High School and Ava Palmgren of Cardinal Gibbons High School. 

Tala a Senior on the Parkwood High School Wrestling team went 8-0 last week in his dual matches.  Sage went 3-0 Thursday vs Ardrey Kell, Indian Land and had the deciding pin vs Weddington to seal the win for the team.  On Saturday, Sage went 5-0 at the South Stanly Bull Pen Duals.  He took down his opponents from Forest Hills, Jay M Robinson, North Stanly, South Davidson and defended the defending state champ Ranfere Garica from South Stanly High School. Sage was selected as the Most Outstanding wrestler of the tournament on Saturday and is currently 11-0 on the year. 

Ava a Senior on the Cardinal Gibbons Basketball Team scored a career high 34 points. Shooting 14-16 from the floor, including 6-6 from three- point range, and added 4 rebounds. Ava scored 29 of the points in the first half of the game, staking Gibbons to a 55-17 halftime advantage, and then played limited minutes in the second half, as the team had a big lead. Ava is averaging 15.2 points per game for the season and shooting 44% from three-point range. Ava has averaged 10.8 points per game over her four-year varsity career and has made a total of 107 three-pointers.
