HAYESVILLE — According to the Asheville Citizen-Times, Hayesville High School is replacing its grass field in its football with artificial turf.
The turf is part of a major renovation for the Hayesville stadium, which includes new bleachers on the home side.
A number of high schools in the mountains have switched to turf. In 2005, the NCHSAA member schools in Asheville and Buncombe County made the move and several others have followed suit, reducing maintenance and also allowing for heavy use by schools as well as outside teams such as recreation department programs.
