NCHSAA Reminds Schools To Take Caution Regarding Heat

NCHSAA REMINDS SCHOOLS TO EXERCISE
CAUTION DURING EXTREME HEAT

CHAPEL HILL – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has issued a reminder to its 397 member schools to take extra caution regarding high heat and humidity as schools are conducting summer workouts in various sports, especially in view of the high heat warning for the next several days.

Commissioner Davis Whitfield and Deputy Commissioner Que Tucker, in a memo to athletic directors across the state, urged them “to exercise extreme caution in any activities scheduled during this period when temperatures are expected to reach triple-digits. A number of things should be considered when scheduling workouts, including time of day, intensity level of workouts, equipment worn and environmental conditions.”

Whitfield and Tucker also reminded officials to be aware of their local policies relative to extreme heat.
More detailed hot weather guidelines, including charts for temperature and relative humidity and potential workout adjustments, are on www.nchsaa.org, “Health and Safety”, or by clicking here.
