VETERAN COACH RETIRING AT WILLIAMS
BURLINGTON — Veteran coach Mike Beamon of Williams High School is retiring, according to the Burlington Times-News.
Beamon has coached the Bulldogs tennis program since 1995, which has produced several state champions. His men’s teams reached the NCHSAA dual-team tennis finals on two occasions and he has also coached the women’s team for the last seven seaons.
He has also been an assistant coach for the football team and an assistant for the highly successful women’s basketball team.
Beamon, who graduated from Williams in 1965, began his coaching career in 1969 with two years with the baseball team at Cummings High School. He left education for about a decade to work in real estate before joining the football staff at Williams under coach Sam Story in 1983.
He has taught social studies at Williams.
