Jacksonville-onslow Hall Of Fame Class Includes Padgett

JACKSONVILLE— The 10th class was inducted into the Jacksonville-Onslow Sports Hall of Fame in a ceremony at the Jacksonville Country Club, according to the Jacksonville Daily News.

Veteran Southwest Onslow High School coach Phil Padgett and former Georgetown High football player Roy Hurst joined the prestigious hall.

Padgett has been a successful coach in baseball, golf and basketball, although he is best known for his football teams. Since taking charge of the Stallion football program in 1988, Padgett has a 256-62 overall career coaching mark with 22 appearances in the state playoffs and14 conference titles. His Southwest teams have made five visits to the NCHSAA state championship game, with state titles in 2000, 2003 and 2004.

Padgett has also been the school’s athletic director for 20 years. As the Southwest baseball coach from 1985-94, Padgett led the Stallions to seven conference championships and berths in the NCHSAA state championship series in 1990 and 1991.
