North Lenoir Baseball Coach Reaches Milestone

LA GRANGE— North Lenoir High School baseball coach Jim Montague has reached a significant milestone.

The veteran coach saw his North Lenoir team earn him his 350th career victory as North beat Kinston 11-1 in six innings on April 26.

Chastin Radford had a pair of two-run home runs to lead the way for the Hawks, who are now 14-7 overall. Caleb Kearney gave up just three hits on the mound for the winners. A five-run third for North Lenoir helped to break the game open.

Montague has enjoyed success throughout his 22-year career. Montague has been the varsity baseball coach at North Lenoir since 1991 and has compiled a career record of 350-181 during that span.

During his career he has won eight conference titles and his teams have appeared in the playoffs 12 times. North Lenoir has advanced to play in five Eastern finals and three NCHSAA state championships, winning it all in 2005 and 2006, and was state runner-up in 2007.

Montague was inducted into the North Lenoir Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
