ENKA STAR BURNS NETS FOR 54 POINTS
WAYNESVILLE — Enka High School senior basketball standout had a night to remember on Wednesday night.
Taylor McCurry poured in 54 points to lead Enka to a 105-101 victory in overtime over Tuscola in men’s basketball action in the second round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state tournament.
McCurry’s big night established a new Enka school record, breaking the old mark of 51 held by Wes Conner and set during the 1993-94 campaign, and lifted the Jets into the third round against Morganton Freedom on Friday.
Enka is now 17-11 and trailed by 15 points in the first half, according to the Asheville Citizen-Times.
Tuscola, which finished 19-8 overall, got 29 points each from Logan Hardin and Aaron Westhusing.
