HICKORY— The Hickory Crawdads, South Atlantic League affiliate of the Texas Rangers, have announced the details of the 2012 Prep Baseball Showcase Showdown at L.P. Frans Stadium on Saturday, March 3.

The showcase will consist of four exciting match-ups featuring high school teams from around the area, including rematches from last year’s 3-A and  4-A state championship series. The first game of the showcase will start at 9 a.m. 

Tickets are available for only five dollars and are good for all four games with re-admittance permitted. Luxury suites are also available for only $100. Order your tickets right now by calling the Front Office at (828) 322-3000.

Additionally, all fans that check in at the Crawdads 1st Base Concessions Stand during the 3rd inning of all four prep games will receive four FREE tickets that can be used at any of the ‘Dads 2012 Opening Weekend games (Thurs, April 12 – Sun, April 15). Also, the Crawdads will select one lucky fan that checks in during all four prep games to throw out a Ceremonial First Pitch before a 2012 Opening Weekend game!

Here are all the details on the four great Prep Showcase Showdown games:

Game 1: North Stanly Comets vs. South Stanly Rowdy Rebels

First Pitch: 9 a.m.

Notes: A big match-up for county bragging rights… North Stanly head coach Will Davis begins his first season at the Comets helm… South Stanly was the 2011 Class 1A State runner-up… South Stanly returns six seniors from last year.

Game 2: Cherryville Ironmen vs. Randleman Tigers

First Pitch: 11:30 a.m.

Notes: The Tigers are the defending Class 2A State Champions… The Tigers won the 2011 State Championship against East Rutherford by throwing a runner out at home to win the game… The Tigers ended the season 28-4… Cherryville has been a perennial 1-A baseball power… The Ironmen are well known for their vast traveling fan base.

Game 3: South Point Red Raiders vs. Northeast Guilford Rams

First Pitch: 2 p.m.

Notes: Rematch of last year’s Class 3A Championship Series, which South Point won, 2-games-to-1… After dropping the first contest, the Red Raiders won the final two games of the series to become state champions… The Rams lost their top two pitchers but return the majority of their starters from 2011.

Game 4: Holly Springs Golden Hawks vs. T.C. Roberson Rams

First Pitch: 4:30 p.m.

Notes: Rematch of last year’s 4-A State Championship, which Holly Springs won in two straight games… The Golden Hawks lost 11 seniors from their championship team last year… Rams SS Tim McKeithan has signed to play at Brown University next year… Rams OF James Nevant has signed to play with Notre Dame next season.
