SWAIN COUNTY NAMES NEW FOOTBALL COACH

BRYSON CITY—Swain County High School has named its new head football coach, according to the Asheville Citizen-Times.

Neil Blankenship, long-time assistant coach, has been elevated to the head job, taking the place of Sam Pattillo.

Blankenship, a 1988 graduate of Swain, has been at the school for 19 years as an assistant coach and has worked under the three previous head coaches for the program, including Boyce Deitz, Rod White and Patillo. Blankenship has been the defensive coordinator on the Swain staff for the last five seasons.

Swain captured the NCHSAA 1-AA football title in December, beating Ayden-Grifton 20-14.
