NCHSAA Swimming Championships Scheduled For Triangle Aquatic Center

NCHSAA CHAMPIONSHIPS IN SWIMMING SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY10-12

CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championships in all classifications of swimming and diving will return to the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary this year.

The All American Swim Supply-NCHSAA 2011 State Swimming and Diving Championships are set for February 10-12, with different classifications on each day. The championships will kick off on Thursday, February 10, with the 1-A/2-A event, followed on Friday by the 4-A championships and then conclude on Saturday with the 3-A competition, all at the Triangle Aquatic Center.

Swimming will commence each day with preliminaries starting after the coaches’ meeting, which is scheduled to end at around 8:45 am. Finals are slated to begin at 5:00 pm each day.

The diving for all classifications will occur at Pullen Aquatic Center in Raleigh. Diving competition will be start on Wednesday, February 9, with the 1-A/2-A divers, with warm-ups beginning at 2 p.m. and competition at 2:45. The 4-A divers will compete on Thursday, with warm-ups starting at 1:00 and then competition 45 minutes later.

The 3-A diving competition is Friday, with all warm-ups starting at 1 pm and competition 45 minutes later.

In men’s competition, Carrboro is the defending 1-A/2-A team champion while Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons captured the 3-A title last year and Charlotte Providence won the 4-A crown.

East Chapel Hill broke the Providence hold on the 4-A women’s title, since the Charlotte school had won five of the last six prior to 2010 and 10 of the last 12 state crowns. Charlotte Catholic won its fifth consecutive 3-A women’s state title and West Davidson was the 1-A/2-A champion.

In addition to All American Swim Supply serving as the title sponsor, Wendy’s is the presenting sponsor of the NCHSAA sports programs and the Raleigh Sports Consortium is the primary host sponsor for the championships in Wake County.

Time Warner Cable will offer televised highlights of the swimming championships in its Carolina Video on Demand format, to be made available the following week.
