Championships Decided In NCHSAA Women”s Dual Team Tennis

                BURLINGTON – Raleigh Broughton outlasted Charlotte Myers Park 5-1 for the 4-A championship in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association women’s dual team tennis championships at the Burlington Tennis Center in chilly, wet conditions on Saturday.

       In a battle of undefeated teams, Broughton earned its 10th dual team title in 14 previous appearances in the final and finished with a perfect 25-0 record on the year. The Caps lost only at the number two singles.

Myers Park suffered its first loss after 17 consecutive wins.

       In the 3-A championship, Charlotte Catholic lost the number-one singles but swept the rest en route to a 5-1 victory.  It kept Catholic’s record perfect in women’s dual team finals at 9-0 and ended their season at 15-6 while Gibbons wound up 19-9 overall.

       Salisbury swept all of the singles in straight sets, including winning six sets at love, to roll past Tarboro 6-0 for the 2-A championship. Salisbury won its third straight NCHSAA dual team title in its sixth straight trip to the finals and finished the year at 25-2, while Tarboro wound up 25-3.

       Durham’s North Carolina School of Science and Math completed a perfect 16-0 dual-team campaign with a 5-2 victory over Mount Airy in the 1-A final. The win in the number-one doubles match by Alice Huang and Sarah Chao clinched the victory for NCSSM, which won its third state title in the last four seasons. Mount Airy ended the year at 22-2 overall.
