EAST ROWAN EVENS SERIES, BEATS ROCKY MOUNT 6-2

ZEBULON – Micah Jarrett went three for four at the plate with a double and a triple to lead East Rowan to a 6-2 victory over Rocky Mount in game two of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3-A baseball championship series on Saturday at Five County Stadium.

The win by the Mustangs, now 29-5, evened the best-of-three series at one game apiece. The third game will be this afternoon at 5 p.m.

East got off to a great start, as Jarrett’s double in the first scored two runs and then he later scored on a sacrifice fly by Trey Holmes to make it 3-0.

The Gryphons, now 26-6, cut it to 3-1 in the fourth on a two-out run-scoring single by Jim Leggett after Brian Goodwin had doubled. But East added a run in the fifth on back-to-back triples by Jarrett and Holmes and then scored twice in the sixth on an error after a hit batsman, a walk and a sacrifice bunt.

William Barringer had three hits in four at-bats for Rocky Mount and Grant Johnson was two for three, including an RBI double that scored the Gryphon run in the fifth.

Justin Roland went the distance on the mound for the winners, striking out three and walking two, while Chris Berry got the loss.

Rocky Mount had opened the series with a 7-4 victory on Friday night, with Jim Leggett going the distance on the mound for the victory and allowing just three hits.
