WEEK 2 | 2023-24 OrthoCarolina Performance of the Week

Each week two athletes in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association are selected for the Performance of the Week Award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. These athletes are nominated by coaches, media, and school administrators for their outstanding performance.

The OrthoCarolina Performers of the Week for week two of the NCHSAA competition are Kelley Cook from Manteo and Austin LeWallen from Princeton.

Cook, a junior outside hitter, had a huge week for the Manteo volleyball team. In their win over Hatteras, she recorded 12 kills on 40 attacks (.333) and added a pair of aces and seven digs. Though her squad fell to Holmes later in the week, she had an even more impressive performance with 25 kills, 22 digs, a block assist and 11 serves without an error.

For the week, Cook had 23 serve receptions without an error.

LeWallen, a sophomore running back for the Bulldogs, powered his team to a 41-34 win against rivals Rosewood. He scored six touchdowns and a 2-point conversion and racked up 375 yards on 51 carries.

For the year, LeWallen is averaging 176.7 yards per game and already has nine touchdowns.
