WAXHAW–Gosnell White has announced he will retire at the end of the season, according to a report in the Charlotte Observer.
White is currently the head men’s basketball coach at Marvin Ridge and spent many years guiding the programs at Harding and West Charlotte.
He coached several years at Harding before taking over at West Charlotte in the mid-’90s. The program had been thriving under head coach Charles McCullough but fell on some tougher times after McCullough retired.
Under Coach White, West Charlotte won eight straight conference championships from 1997-2004 and made five Western Regional appearances, including capturing the 1999 NCHSAA state 4-A championship. West Charlotte downed Wilmington Laney 84-67 at the Smith Center in that title game, led by Jason Parker.
White has coached at Marvin Ridge since 2007. His teams there have won two conference and two conference tournament championships.
