GREENSBORO—Two of the three best individual scoring performances in the history of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s Western Regional women’s basketball tournament occurred in the same game on Tuesday night.
Rachel Camp of East Rutherford poured in 42 points as her team lost a tough 80-76 contest to Franklin in 2-A regional semifinal action at Fleming Gymnasium on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
The previous Western Regional record was 41, set by Cetera DeGraffenreid of Smoky Mountain against East Davidson in the 2007 2-A regional championship.
Camp had four three-pointers, making 13 of 31 shots from the field and 12 of 17 at the foul line.
Sarah Henson of Franklin led the way for the winners with 39 points, hitting 10 of 18 from the field but also knocking down 19 foul shots in 20 trips to the line. She also led the team with 11 rebounds.
