            On this day in history in the NCHSAA, North Carolina signee Cetera DeGraffenreid  poured in 16 of 19 foul shots and 36 of the team’s 52 second-half points to break a 33-33 halftime score, leading Smoky Mountain over Graham 85-62 in the NCHSAA 2-A women’s basketball state championship. DeGraffenreid’s 42 points and the team's 52 points in a half were the second most in NCHSAA women’s basketball championship history.

            On this day in history in the NCHSAA, Dominque Wilkins stole the show as he earned the Most Valuable Player award,  leading Washington over Rockingham for the 3-A title in front of a full house at Carmicheal Auditorium. It was the Pam Packs’ second of back-to-back championships.
