KNIGHTDALE– Chad Smothers has been named as the new athletic director at Knightdale High School, according to a number of media reports including HighSchoolOT.com.

     Smothers, who has been the head football coach at Leesville Road for the past three seasons, will take over as Knightdale athletic director for Guy Blough, who earlier announced his retirement at the end of the academic year. The first day on the new job for Smothers will be July 1.

     Smothers posted a record of 32-6 at the football helm at Leesville, including an 8-4 mark during the 2013 season.  He had served as defensive coordinator prior to being head coach and also had been Leesville’s head baseball coach for a stint.

     He has previously coached at Havelock, Rockingham and Reidsville High Schools.
