CORNELIUS—W.A. Hough High School had a phenomenal women’s soccer season, winning the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A championship, and now the Huskies have added another accolade.      

     Hough was the number-one ranked team in the nation in the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.    

     The Huskies, coached by David Smith, finished the year 25-0-2 and beat Panther Creek 1-0 in overtime in the 4-A final. Senior forward Courtney Carroll scored a golden goal in the 107th minute to lift Hough to victory at Dail Soccer Field at North Carolina State University.

     Carroll, who is headed to Ole Miss, scored her 29th goal of the season and was named the championship match MVP.

     Hough was also the top-rated team in the country in 2012, when it also won the NCHSAA 4-A crown.

     Founded in 1941 and based in Kansas City, Kan., the National Soccer Coaches Association of America has grown into the world’s largest soccer coaches’ organization that serves members at every level of the game.
