WINSTON-SALEM—Derrick Speas has resigned as the track and field coach at Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy, according to a report in the Winston-Salem Journal.
Speas served in that capacity for seven years, coaching Winston-Salem Prep to a couple of NCHSAA 1-A team championships and a couple of runner-up finishes. The W-S Prep women’s team was third in this year’s state 1-A meet.
According to the report, Speas said he had done about all he could do at Prep and is seeking other opportunities. He is also a personal trainer who works with U.S. Olympic speedskaters and other athletes.
