Former NCHSAA MVP Earns MLB Wild Card Victory

       PITTSBURGH– Madison Bumgarner limited Pittsburgh to just four hits and struck out 10 as he pitched the San Francisco Giants to an 8-0 victory over the Pirates in the National League wild card playoff game on Wednesday night.

      Bumgarner was the Most Valuable Player in the 2007 North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A baseball championship series in 2007.  Bumgarner led South Caldwell to a two-game sweep over Wilmington Ashley for the state title as the Spartans finished a 31-3 season.

      The former South Caldwell star posted an 18-10 record this season for the Giants, striking out 219 in 217 innings of work and sporting a 2.98 earned run average. The big 6-5, 235-pounder also batted .258 and hit four home runs.

      In 2013, he was 13-9 with a 2.77 ERA for San Francisco, and put together a 16-11 mark and 3.37 ERA in 2012.
