CHAPEL HILL—Kendall Hinton of Southern Durham and Salita Greene of Durham’s C.E. Jordan have been named winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Subway® Restaurants.
Each week one male and one female athlete in NCHSAA competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Hinton, quarterback for Southern Durham’s defending state football champions, spurred the Spartans to their 27th consecutive victory in a wild 67-48 triumph over Cleveland in the second round of the NCHSAA 3-AA playoffs. The Spartans needed just about all of those points, as Hinton threw for five touchdowns and ran for two more. He completed 13 of 23 passes for 282 yards and rushed for 136 yards in 13 tries.
Greene led the Jordan women’s basketball team with two great performances last week as the Falcons went 1-1 overall. She scored 23 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, had eight steals and four blocks in a 70-61 victory over Wakefield and then poured in a career-high 31 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and had three steals in a tough 49-44 loss to Holly Springs. She has signed to continue her career at the University of Richmond.
TWC Sports Channel typically announces the winners of the awards during their Tuesday night SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients are also recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
