BEAR CREEK—Chatham Central High School women’s basketball coach Gerald Binkley has hit a tremendous coaching milestone.
Binkley, who has coached at Chatham Central for 32 years, achieved his 600th coaching victory recently, although it came in unusual fashion.
Chatham Central was scheduled to play Queen’s Grant in a tournament, but Queen’s Grant informed Chatham Central it did not have enough players to be able to partiipate in the game and would have to forfeit. So Binkley picked up a victory in this case without even playing.
Binkley has guided Chatham Central teams to three North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championships, in 1986, 1999 and 2000. He has seen his Lady Bears win 13 conference championships.
