Westover Gymnasium Dedicated

FAYETTEVILLE–Westover High School named its gymnasium in honor of former girls' basketball coach Gene Arrington on Friday night.

The ceremony took place between the varsity girls and varsity boys basketball games with Gray's Creek.

Arrington retired as Westover coach just before the start of the 2013 school year because of health complications.

He enjoyed a brief but outstanding career as head coach of the Wolverine girls, leading them to the 4-A championship in 2008.

In high school, he was a member of the T.C. Williams High School football team from Alexandria, Va., that was made famous in the hit film "Remember the Titans'' starring Denzel Washington.
