COMPLIANCE CORNER

a quick question concerning rules, regulations and policies of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association

Q:  Are there rights fees for radio or television broadcasts of NCHSAA playoff games?

A: The answer is yes, and they should be paid to the host school (or to the NCHSAA at state championship events) prior to the beginning of the contest.  The section about radio-TV fees is found in rule 2.3.17 in the Handbook.

The most common fee is the $50 fee for any live radio broadcast of a playoff game, whether it is AM, FM or live audio stream. Live television or video streaming is not allowed in NCHSAA postseason play, except by the NCHSAA television rights holder, which is currently Time Warner Cable.
