Athletes From Glenn, Knightdale Earn NCHSAA Performance of Week Awards

CHAPEL HILL— Karen Foley of Glenn High School in Kernersville and Jamie Brown of Knightdale High School are the winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Subway® Restaurants.

Each week one male and one female athlete in NCHSAA competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Foley, an outstanding softball player, had a great week last week, highlighted by three home runs in a 9-2 holiday tournament victory over South Stokes, earning a performance listing in the NCHSAA Record Book. In addition, she was the winning pitcher in three games that included her going 10 for 12 at the plate, belting five home runs and three doubles.

That raised her batting average to .537, and her first home run of the three on Saturday gave her the Glenn career home run record, with her season total now at six.

Brown, a senior track standout, won a pair of events at Saturday’s Wake County Track and Field Championships.  Headed to Western Carolina, Brown won the high jump by clearing 6-2 and also won the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, two inches.

His long jump performance is reported to be the best mark in that event by any competitor in the 2015 outdoor season in the state.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during a SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients are also recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
