TAYLORSVILLE–Alexander Central High School's softball program has put another remarkable record into the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Record Book.
Tuesday night's 10-0 victory over West Iredell ran the Cougars' record on the season to 18-0, but even more amazing is the fact that it was Alexander Central's 84th consecutive victory in fast-pitch softball, establishing a new NCHSAA record. The streak began back in 2013.
Central Cabarrus held the previous record of 83, with a streak that ran from 2004 into 2006.
Alexander Central is coached by Monte Sherrill, and the Cougars have won eight NCHSAA state championships during his tenure, including three in slow-pitch and then five in fast-pitch, including titles in 2013 and '14. The Cougars were 35-0 last year.
Congratulations to the Cougar softball program!
