On this day in history in the NCHSAA, Ashe County and North Surry completed the longest recorded fast-pitch softball game in NCHSAA history when their 26-inning marathon spread out over the course of five days. The game started on April 22 and, after being suspended twice on April 22nd and April 25th, the game was ultimately decided on April 27th with Ashe County prevailing 2-0. In that game, Kayla Richardson set a national record for strikeouts in an extra-inning game with 40.
